“High Flying Bird” Film Review & Analysis
High Flying Bird (2019) is the newest Netflix release from director Steven Soderbergh, which sees him teaming up with one of the co-writers of Moonlight, Tarell Alvin McCraney. It stars Andre Holland (also of Moonlight fame) and Zazie Beetz in a story about an ambitious sports agent who hatches a plan to elevate his client during an NBA lockout. “Velvet Buzzsaw” Film Review
Velvet Buzzsaw (2019) is the latest from writer-director Dan Gilroy, whose debut feature Nightcrawler (2014) remains one of my favorite films of the past decade. It sees the on-screen reunion of Nightcrawler stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Rene Russo as part of a large ensemble of players in the high art world who stumble across a collection of mysterious paintings that may or may not be haunted. With a cast and crew I adored in a previous film, I was super stoked for this one and checked it out as soon as it dropped on Netflix at midnight. Is it worth the watch?
