Bad Education (2020) is the sophomore effort of young director Cory Finley, who impressed a couple years back with his debut Thoroughbreds. It stars Hugh Jackman as a school superintendent in the true story of how he masterminded the largest scholastic embezzlement scheme in history. It debuted to solid reviews at TIFF last year and was released this weekend on HBO. Could this be an Oscars player?

Welcome back to the blog! As usual in these troubling times, there is a lack of new material to talk about in the film world…theaters are closed, new releases are being pushed back, everything sucks, blah blah blah… Why don’t we liven things up with a happier topic like animation? “Never Rarely Sometimes Always” Film Review: The Virtues (and Downsides) of Harsh Realism

Never Rarely Sometimes Always (2020) is a teen drama written and directed by fledgling filmmaker Eliza Hittman. It stars Sidney Flanigan and Talia Ryder as two cousins who embark on a journey to New York City to get an abortion after one of them gets pregnant. It premiered at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year to strong reviews, and also screened at Berlin Film Festival, earning the prestigious Silver Bear Jury Prize. What’s all the commotion about?
