‘CODA’ Script Analysis: When the Familiar Meets the Familial

This past Sunday, CODA set the film world ablaze with its historic Best Picture victory at the 94th Academy Awards, sweeping each of its three nominations. It was an impressive task for such a small film, labelled by some as just a feel-good Sundance movie and nothing more. I’ve been a champion of the film from the moment I laid eyes on it, as I believe it’s one of the best movies of the year and wholly deserving of its victories. Today I’m going to examine the screenplay and explain why I think this movie is truly special and will age better than many believe as a Best Picture winner.

‘Deep Water’ Film Review: The Mysteries of Marriage

Deep Water (2022) is an erotic thriller film from director Adrian Lyne, based on the 1957 Patricia Highsmith novel of the same name. It stars Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas in a story about a husband jealous of his wife’s infidelity who begins taking out his anger on her young lovers. The film faced a troubled post-production phase, being delayed multiple times from its original 2020 release date before finally dropping on Hulu and Prime Video this Friday. Is this as much of a disaster as it looked on paper, or does it revitalize a dying genre?

‘The Batman’ Film Review: V is for Vengeance

The Batman (2022) is a crime-drama superhero film written and directed by Matt Reeves, based on the eponymous character from DC Comics. It stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, who is investigating a series of crimes committed by infamous villain the Riddler (Paul Dano). The highly-anticipated film premiered last week in London ahead of its March 4th theatrical release. Is this yet another successful (dark) turn for the Batman franchise?
