Top 10 Films of 2020 (So Far)

As is tradition here at Scriptophile, I like to mark the occasion of July 1st by highlighting the best of what the first half of the year had to offer. 2020 is an especially odd year, however, with theaters shut down due to COVID-19 and the future of new releases in jeopardy. As such, I saw far fewer movies than I usually do by this point in the year and we may not even have an awards season to look forward to in the fall and winter months! That said, we could all use a little positivity right now and I still love talking about film, so let’s look back and see what the year has had to offer us so far!

Of the many achievements in film this decade, one of the subtler ones is the emergence of movie trailer construction as an art form. They used to be simple promotional shorts meant to raise awareness for future audiences. Now, many of them are aimed to entertain and evoke emotions just as well as the film itself (if not better)! This list isn’t meant to show the trailers of the most-anticipated films, or the most-viewed. The 2010’s were a great year for cinema, giving us countless memorable moments, characters, beginnings, middles, and endings. But what were the stand-out individual scenes from the entire decade? Top 10 Most Disappointing Films of 2019

I’m a very picky movie-goer these days, only making the trip to a theater (or setting aside two hours to stream) when I think I will enjoy a film. As such, I intentionally skip all the truly worst films of the year and won’t be making such a list this year (or any)…you won’t find Cats or The Fanatic on this list!
