‘A Hero’ Film Review: Blurred Lines

A Hero (2021) is a drama-thriller film from Iranian director Asghar Farhadi. It stars Amir Jadidi as a man imprisoned for unpaid debts who has two days to try and clear his name before going back to jail. The film debuted at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, where it tied for the runner-up prize (the Grand Prix), ahead of its release in theaters and streaming on Amazon Prime. Will this be a contender for Best International Feature at the 2022 Oscars?

40 Films to Watch for the 2022 Oscars

The 93rd Academy Awards are still to come in this torturously-long season, but with many of the major races already decided, let’s jump ahead a year and look at next year’s ceremony! Next awards season gives us a nice dose of deja vu as we already know many of the big contenders, thanks to them being pushed back due to COVID-19. “Palm Springs” Film Review: Infinite Time’s the Charm

Palm Springs (2020) is a sci-fi rom-com from debut writer-director Max Barbakow. It stars Andy Samberg and Cristin Millioti as two strangers who meet at a wedding and become trapped in a time loop, repeating the same day over and over. It debuted to strong reviews at this year’s Sundance Film Festival before hitting Hulu this weekend. Is this a fresh concept worth exploring, or a tired rehashing of familiar source material?

The 2020 Midpoint Oscars

2020 has definitely been a strange year for cinema. With cinemas all but shut down and the future of new releases in peril, it’s difficult to analyze the year’s offerings as a cohesive whole. I’ve also seen far fewer films than I normally would by this point in the year. Regardless, we have seen some strong work thus far, and as is tradition, I want to take the opportunity at the halfway mark of the year and look back at what we’ve received so far. So without further ado, here are the 3rd Annual Scriptophile Midpoint Oscars!

As a counterbalance to my previous post, I want to do the opposite and talk about some films that DIDN’T get much public recognition but really should have. These are the hidden gems that have slipped through the cracks, the forgotten flicks that should have been remembered alongside their Oscar-nominated kin. Here are the 10 most overlooked films of the 2010’s!
