Welcome back to the blog! As usual in these troubling times, there is a lack of new material to talk about in the film world…theaters are closed, new releases are being pushed back, everything sucks, blah blah blah… Why don’t we liven things up with a happier topic like animation? While animated films aren’t usually my thing, Pixar is an undeniable tour de force in the industry and was a major influence on my childhood. As such, I wanted to list every Pixar film I’ve seen and rank them from worst to best! There are some spicy takes contained within, so join me and see where you disagree!

“The Lion King” and Disney’s Cultural Wasteland

This weekend brings us the much-anticipated release of Disney’s The Lion King remake, currently clocking in at an uninspiring 57% on Rotten Tomatoes. And yet, it’s projected to make over a billion dollars and become one of the highest grossing films of the year – yet another addition to Disney’s growing stranglehold on the box office. How did we get to this point? Are audiences getting stupider? Has Disney grown too large? What does this mean for the future of cinema heading into a new decade?

“Mary Poppins Returns” Film Review

Mary Poppins Returns (2018) is the long-awaited sequel to the original 1964 film starring the titular character. Emily Blunt takes over the lead role from Julie Andrews, with Lin-Manuel Miranda supporting as another beloved Cockney lamplighter. As the title suggests, the film follows Mary as she comes back to the family she once left when the kids from the first film are all grown up. Is it worthy of its predecessor, and will it have legs going into Oscar season?
