“Euphoria” Season 1 Review

Euphoria is a teen drama series created by Sam Levinson for HBO. It stars Zendaya as Rue Bennett, a high schooler and recovering drug addict who struggles to stay clean while dealing with various classmate drama. While I don’t typically watch shows in this genre, the first season of the show received rave reviews and piqued my interest. Is this the next big teen sensation, or just a flash in the pan?

“Babyteeth” Film Review: The Beauty of the Mundane

Babyteeth (2020) is the directorial debut of Australian filmmaker Shannon Murphy, based on a play of the same name by Rita Kalnejais (who penned the script). It stars Eliza Scanlen as a teenager with a terminal illness who falls in love with a local drug dealer. “Bombshell” Film Review: The Quintessential #MeToo Movie

Bombshell (2019) was directed by Jay Roach from a screenplay by Charles Randolph, one of the co-writers of the 2015 hit The Big Short. It stars Charlize Theron, Margot Robbie, Nicole Kidman, John Lithgow and others in the true story of the Fox News/Roger Ailes sexual harassment scandal against female news pundits within the organization. It has drawn many comparisons to last year’s Vice and similarly threatens to compete in multiple acting races (and Best Picture). Is the hype well-earned?

“The Irishman” Film Review: Life, Love and Long Runtimes

The Irishman (2019) is the latest audiovisual entertainment from Martin Scorsese. It stars Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci in the (mostly) true story of a driver-turned-hitman reflecting back on his life of crime. The sprawling crime epic has been Scorsese’s dream project for years, and he finally got the chance to make it with the backing of Netflix. Is it worth the hype? Could this be the next Best Picture winner?
